Terrific content and context. Agreed. My heart has been struggling with wanting to eat more "member berries" while NY soul has moved on and I am eating "create new future berries"
I personally like to watch movies / read books that are a vision of one person, anymore than that it becomes like the process food with more than couple of ingredients "No Good"!
I'm a movie Protestant! Marvel and Disney are selling indulgences. And I've gone back to the animation of the 1920s and 1930s, wondering how Disney took us so far afield from the original animated works of Windsor McCay, Max Fleischer, and Ladislas Starewich. (Obscure references deliberate.) And what about Georges Meliés and his original science fiction movies? And Charly Bowers? And his influence on Jan Hus, I mean Svankmejer? We have to get back to black and white and hand tinted films. Films that anyone could make. We all know Disney was the Antichrist. Just sayin'.
But I can hear some of you saying, What about Edison, W.K.L. DIckon, and les Lumiere Freres? And I have to say, I'm still considering them. These are the original movies.
And my reply to them? The praxinoscope, the zoetrope, and the magic lantern. For which one needs to know Greek and Hebrew to fully understand.
(Chris Gore was just on a live stream of the Drinker.)
"a generous diet of memberberries"
I just saw this on Fb: "With Everything Going On ….. I Can Only Assume That Somewhere A Hobbit Is Carrying A Ring To A Volcano."
The subjects are interesting, but it seems that every single one of them is 1+ hour, which is really daunting. Could we have a highlights or summary reel?
The last modern movie I can recall that has any merit is The Prestige.
Love you Paul, this is a good one.
IT STOPPED ON LORD OF THE RINGS
don't know if you'll get to it but Arrival is one of the good ones…I think
"Practically Perfect in every way
If I had fault it would never dare to show"
Movies and TV are idolatry. Movies/TV is the USA's Cult of Caesar. Caesar is lord? No, Christ is Lord!
Movies are USA's masses. TV is the USA's lectio divina. We need Christians who read. We need pastors to condemn broadcast mass media. Books are the appropriate intimate distance.
I found James B Jordan this weekend, and I'm a bit disappointed that this little corner of the internet wasn't what brought him to my attention! He's a protestant scholar who has been working on biblical symbolism since the 80s, and wrote a book "Through New Eyes" that's absolutely fantastic. He has over 200 lectures on the book of Revelation that I'm going to start going through soon as well. But he has a bunch of lectures on YouTube that I think people should check out, if they want someone to walk them through what Jonathan Pageau is doing with his symbolic world stuff. Worth your time.
Benjamins latest conversation with Wokal might be of interest for you, Paul. I'd love to hear your commentary on it!
