I installed Windows Me on my computer at the time, "upgrading" from Windows 98, and while it had a few neat additions, it was the worst computing decision I've ever made. That thing crashed multiple times a day, it was absolutely infuriating.

Windows Vista, on the other hand, is wrongfully maligned. The biggest problem wasn't the OS itself, but rather that hardware manufacturers would load it onto cheap, underpowered hardware. If you had a decent system, though, and weren't trying to use any ancient hardware devices, it was actually quite nice. I actually happily stayed on it for a while after Win7 came out, only finally relenting when I decided to upgrade to an SSD and wanted to leverage Win7's TRIM functionality.

Win 8…horrendous new Start screen, but if you replaced that with an after-market utility like Start8 wasn't too bad.

MS DOS was never considered to be very good. Maybe be some people, but certainly not by those who knew UNIX.

It is interesting that you chose Windows ME as your least bad OS. I have used ME, Vista, and 8.x and agree that you have them in correct order. 8.x made me think that the programmers didn't take the time to ask businesses what their thoughts would be. I was fond of ME as it had USB drivers right out of the box and the first program to let you go back in time to when the computer was working properly. Thanks for sharing.

You are way too young to know some of these OSes personally. DOS was great and there was nothing wrong with ME.

I think number 5 shouldn't be on the list. It wasn't even commercial.

I started work using Windows Vista back in 2009. There is no performance issues, because this was already more than 3 years. But the OS is clearly borked and the decrepit laptop is barely holding on, with various overheating issues. Windows 7 then came with another upgraded laptop, it was heaven-sent. It looks cleaner, and lighter than Vista, although most of it are relatively the same. The stability only reminds me of my own Windows XP back home. When SimCity 2013 fiasco hits the fan, and EA apologised by giving us free games, my choice of Battlefield 3 requires 64-bit system, so I upgraded to Windows 7 in no time.
    Then Windows 8 came along.
Imagine being in big corporation, and suddenly the IT decided to migrate to Windows 8. Some of us are still using the old laptop from 2008, the majority of which are non-touchscreen, many don't even use mouse.
Then on the first day of startup, the screen became a faux tablet with big icons, but none of the familiar icons, normal start menu, and file explorer. Some of us who were in the office were either busy tweaking the UI or crowding the IT tech support room. The rest in work site / client site, scheduled for morning meeting, booting up, expecting to find their late night prepared powerpoint slides on the desktop, were now finding their computer has been wiped out by this Microsoft Tablet interface. Some of us managed to find the desktop icon, many simply didn't.
Windows 8 was nearly universally hated from the start on that fateful day.

    But to create an OS!!,
A little respect would do no harm.

With a brand new laptop with Vista pre-installed it crashed and burned after a couple of updates.

For me, Windows 10 is the worst OS ever made by Microsoft. All this telemetry and "please create a Microsoft Account, so that we can have your data" stuff just sucks. My favourite Operating systems are Windows 7, Vista and XP.

2:39 – Ah, the Millenial way of getting to the root directory in DOS. The fact is that NOBODY typed "cd c:" to get the root directory because typing "cd" did EXACTLY the same thing.
3:06 – I remember how Microsoft used to refer to hard drives as "Fixed Disks". They eventually gave up and started calling them hard drives like everyone else.
3:49 – Is it really fair to include operating systems from the computer stone age? I mean, you could include CP/M and QNX also but they were very limited by the very limited tech at the time which made them gawd-awful compared to operating systems with more support like MS/PC-DOS.
10:45 – The graphics in W8 were downright FUGLY. I stuck with W7 simply because I couldn't bear to move from an OS that was as beautiful to look at as W7 to something that was so visually repulsive. In order to make W8 tablet and phone friendly, the graphics had to be dramatically simplified and it just looked awful. Microsoft tried to do EVERYTHING with one OS and it ended up like the F-35. Capable of doing everything but for each application, there was already something out there that could do it way better.

Vista was not "that" bad. It was the UAC that bothered me. For me, the worst was Windows Me. Others in the top 7 are too insignificant.

The fact that you have both Windows Vista and 8 ranked worse the Windows ME completely invalidates this whole list.

I never used any Windows before XP. So I don't have an option on Windows Me. XP was great. Vista was imo, pretty good, I got it in 2009 when SP2 came out, and dealt with it.
Then in 2011 I upgraded to Windows 7, and really noticed that it felt like a downgrade a little bit, like it felt too simplified imo.
Then I got 8.1, it was okay, not that much but it was usable. I upgraded to 10 in 2016 and hated it for the first few months I got it, then I kinda got used to it.
Now I don't know how I'll feel once Windows 11 come out, but I hope it's good once I try it.

11:40 No, only the button was removed, the functionality was there. Clicking on bottom left could've brought start menu.
14:55 macOS big sur. I'd call it Windows 8.2.
